To prepare for the
upcoming England series, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are likely to
host Afghanistan for a One-Day International (ODI) series in
mid-September. Though the dates have not been decided yet, but it is being
learnt, both boards have already agreed upon this. This will be
Afghanistan’s first bilateral series in Bangladesh. Talking to ESPNCricinfo,
Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB)’s media manager Aziz Gharwal revealed, “We are
in talks with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to play the series next month
but we are yet to sign the Memorandum of Understanding [MoU]. We haven’t yet
set dates for the matches but we will soon publish the dates on our website.” However,
reports suggest that the matches may be scheduled in Dhaka during the Eid
holidays and probable dates fall around September 12. The series is
expected to be beneficial for the hosts as well, for they have been hungry for
international cricket. It will provide them some vital match practice ahead of
the all-important fixtures against the English boys. Bangladesh has not
featured in any international series since ICC World T20 2016 in India. In the
first first week of October, Mashrafe Mortaza’s boys are scheduled to play
England a three-match ODI series, which will be followed by twos Tests at
Chittagong and Dhaka respectively. The series was under question following
the terror attacks in Dhaka on July 1. However, recently England and Wales
Cricket Board (ECB) decided to go ahead with the series, but England
players will have the option to opt out of the tour.
