After Dane Paterson
picked up a stack of wickets to bundle out Australia A for a mere 107 in 37.2
overs, Theunis de Bruyn harvested an unbeaten knock of 57 to power the visitors
to a morale-boosting win by eight wickets in the fifth game of the Quadrangular
A-Team One-Day tournament in Townsville on Saturday (August 20). Jon Mennie
winkled out Reeza Hendricks (1) in the second over of the innings. However,
with Chris Tremain, the impressive New South Wales pacer, being rested, the
hosts couldn't stop South Africa A's batsmen from romping home to an easy win, with 29 overs to spare. De Bruyn fused crisply played
strokes, with a diet of singles and twos and teamed up with Heino Kuhn (15) to
forge a stand of 39. Mennie struck again by removing Kuhn in the 10th over. De
Bruyn, though, continued to display the required batting aptitude, and with
David Miller (20 not out) finding his groove by cracking a few boundaries, the
outcome of the match was more or less a foregone conclusion. Earlier in the
day, after Australia A won the toss and opted to bat, Paterson, the Cape
Cobras' pacer, enhanced his reputation by making vital breaches at the top of
the order to leave the home side reeling at 51 for 5 in the 21st over. The
27-year-old pacer bustled in with intent to dislodge Chris Lynn (5), Alex Ross
(6) and Glenn Maxwell (10). Dwaine Pretorius, See More News: http://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-news/82175/quadrangular-a-team-one-day-series-in-australia-2016-theunis-de-bruyn-bowlers-seal-south-africa-as-8-wicket-win
