The Two-Ball Win Against Myanmar

Myanmar v Nepal Live Cricket Score, Commentary

  • Asian Cricket Council Trophy 2006
  • Myanmar v Nepal
  • August 20, 2006
Nepal re-wrote the history book of the ACC Trophy with a two-ball victory over Myanmar after bowling them out of only 10 runs in 12.1 overs. Man of the match Mehboob Alam took seven wicekts for three runs. Myanmar, the first-timer in the event, had already suffered heavy defeats but only very few had expected that the match would be finished so quickly. Mehboob began with the first ball wicket and continued that until the first ball of the seventh over to finish off Myanmar innings at 10. Binod Das took three wickets for four runs in his six overs while Raju Basnet and Akash Gupta were the only other men to featured in the Myanmar innings scorecard. Basnet got a good low catch at the short mid-wicket while Gupta held one at point. All other wickets were either bowled or lbw. Five of their batsmen got a run each while six others failed to open the account – other runs coming from byes, leg-byes and wides. Nepal innings began with Gyanendra Malla and Mahesh Chhetri each of whom scored three runs. The Myanmar bowler Aye Min Than gave away three wides one of which missed wicket-keeper leaving Nepal with two more runs. The match was finished so early that umpires made him bowl one more ball – a dot one.

Khadka, spinners give Nepal 19-run win

Nepal 217 for 9 (Khadka 84, Pun 45, Malla 39, Rippon 4-35) beat Netherlands 198 (Van der Merwe 56, Gruijters 44, Khadka 2-19) by 19 runs

Paras Khadka, the Nepal captain, contributed with bat and ball to help his team defend 217 against Netherlands in an ICC World Cricket League fixture in Amstelveen. Khadka top-scored with a 94-ball 84, and then nipped out two wickets - that of Stephan Myburgh and Wesley Barresi - with his medium-pace in six overs. Netherlands, who recovered from the early blows to be comfortably placed at 103 for 3, were bowled out for 198 in 48.3 overs. Netherlands, who opted to bowl, had Nepal reeling at 65 for 3 in the 20th over. Khadka then forged a 118-run fourth-wicket stand with Sagar Pun to rescue Nepal and set them up for a competitive total. While Khadka hit seven fours and a six, Pun faced 78 deliveries for his 45 and struck two fours. The dismissal of both batsmen in the space of 16 deliveries allowed Netherlands to claw back. Michael Rippon, the left-arm wrist spinner, ran through the lower middle order to finish with 4 for 35 off six overs, while Ahsan Malik, who sent back Khadka, had two wickets. Netherlands' top three contributed just 21. It needed a rescue act from Max O'Dowd and Roelof van der Merwe to bring the chase back on track; the pair added 82 to rescue them from 21 for 3 in the eighth over. But van der Merwe's dismissal for 56 to Sandeep Lamichhane, the legspinner, brought Nepal back into the game. The wickets of O'Dowd and Pieter Seelaar in successive overs left Netherlands tottering at 140 for 6. Timm van der Gugten and Tim Gruijters kept the chase alive courtesy a 53-run stand, before Nepal returned to pick up four wickets in eight deliveries to close out the contest. Despite the loss, Netherlands are still three points ahead of second-placed Hong Kong in the eight-team table. Nepal, for whom this was the third win in eight matches, are placed sixth and equal on points with Kenya, who have two games in hand.

ICC suspends Cricket Association of Nepal

ICC suspends Cricket Association of Nepal
The ICC has suspended the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) in view of government interference in the board. The ICC took the decision during its board meeting on Tuesday. In December, Nepal's National Sports Council (NSC) had formed an ad-hoc committee to run the CAN. This happened soon after Chatur Bahadur Chand was elected the CAN's president in controversial annual general meeting - which was not attended by its then president Tanka Angbuhang - without the NSC's permission. The Chand-led CAN faction then filed a court case, which is still pending, challenging the NSC's decision. "In light of the ongoing court case involving the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and the Ad hoc Committee established by the Nepalese National Sports Council (NSC), which has led to a vacuum of cricket leadership in Nepal, the Board suspended the Membership of CAN for breach of Article 2.9 of the ICC's Articles of Association, which prohibits government interference and requires free and fair elections," the ICC said in a statement. The ICC board added that the suspension would stay in place "until such time as the CAN becomes free of government interference and is properly structured to begin exploiting the tremendous cricket talent and opportunities that exist in Nepal." While the suspension will cut off ICC funding for the CAN, the ICC board decided that Nepal national teams could continue to feature in ICC events.

·         The ICC board has said Nepal can continue to field national teams in ICC events

"ICC management will also now work with the Nepalese cricket community, and other stakeholders, in order to assist with the development of a sustainable governance and administration structure for cricket in Nepal." Via: ESPN
